The Grassroots Invention Group, Future of Learning and
Lifelong Kindergarten Groups collectively make up the Epistemology and Learning
research arm of the MIT Media Lab.
This research is built on the foundational work of Professor Seymour Papert,
who developed the theory of constructionism as an extension of his early work with Jean Piaget.
Constructionism is a theory of learning and education and is based on two different senses of "construction."
First, constructionsim is grounded in the idea that people learn by actively constructing new knowledge rather than by having information "poured" into their heads.
Secondly, constructionism asserts that people learn with particular effectiveness when they are engaged in constructing personally meaningful artifacts (such as computer programs, animations, or robots).
En conjunto, los grupos "Grassroots Invention" , "Future of Learning"
y "Lifelong Kindergarten" conforman el brazo de investigación de Epistemología y Aprendizaje del Laboratorio
de Medios del MIT.
Esta investigación se fundamenta en el trabajo del Profesor Seymour Papert, quien desarrolló la teoría del
construccionismo como una extensión de su colaboración con Jean Piaget.
Construccionismo es una teoría de aprendizaje y educación y se basa en dos conceptos de "construcción". Por una parte, el construccionismo parte de la idea de que las personas
aprenden cuando construyen activamente nuevo conocimiento. Y por otra, propone que se aprende mejor cuando las personas se comprometen en la construcción de artefactos que
les son personalmente significativos, como por ejemplo un programa computacional, una animación o un robot.
